GEL Projects

2010

New M62 junction 26 Whitechapel Bridge - Sewer diversion Monitoring Project working for Peter Duffy, this project entailed a detailed survey and continued monitoring of three sections of carriageway to both hard shoulders and to one side of the central reservation. The project was monitored daily for 57 days to maintain that the carriageway did not move during the installation of a 1.5m dia. Pipe jacking operation, with a reporting mechanism in place when it did. The survey techniques used were via traditional prism and reflector tapes due to the inaccessibility of the central reservation.

New Osborn Steel Extrusions Ltd, we were asked to aid correctly re-aligning an existing extrusion machine that had been striped down for major repairs. Over the course of shut down, Golding Engineering first surveyed and assessed what needed to be adjusted to align the extrusion press back to manufacture’s specification’s. The use of modeling software called LSS aided design and later realignment of the machine, allowing the press to continue working when the shut down period had ended.

New Thongsbridge Holmfirth – Brunswick Estates wanted a topographical survey of a property that the client wanted to develop to allow a new dwelling to be built at the bottom of the garden. Due to the sloping profile of the land, vast changes in level and shape of the plot a survey was carried out. With a 3d plan produced to allow the architect to design the new house correctly on site.

New Hyde Park Leeds – Setting out and design engineering input on a new build project after the initial site had been surveyed and work already commencing on site. The client called after an appointed engineer could not set out the new foundation plan, after speaking to the Architect and processing site data the new build was set out and ready to work on within an hour of arriving on site. The initial design would not fit on site, however after consulting with the Architect on site and with the aid of modeling software the building alignment was adjusted to fit on site. Later when the basement had been cast Golding Engineering continued to set out the inner brickwork and centre’s for the RSJ beams that would later hold the new timber-framed building.

New Sedacol UK Selby – Initial setting out of the piling platforms using GPS to four new building’s being built on site, the contractor only required the platforms setting out. By speaking to the designer beforehand we were able to aid the contractor and designer in getting the setting out drawing corrected before any work was carried out.

2009 – 10

M1 Smithywood – Produced detailed ramp designs of the west and eastern ramps to a new overhead bridleway bridge on the M1, this entailed producing new design string information for the ramp, intersection strings to meet the existing ground profile and detailed cross/ long sections of the proposed design.

M62 westbound near junction 26 – RouteOne Highways required setting out to a new Concrete Barrier to a new bridge protection at Bluehills bridge, after an initial survey offset nails were established to aid excavation works and then final setting out of the concrete barrier.

M62 Between junction 22 to 28 – Capita Symonds requested overhead power line surveys to establish cable heights along the M62 corridor to design new lighting columns for future Managed Motorway scheme, three independent surveys were conducted to produce a list and some small surveys of the location and cable height.

M62 Junction 29 to 30 - Initial survey and setting out of four overhead gantries for future Managed Motorway Scheme, each gantry had Screw Fast Pile installations with a grillage on top to create a base plinth for the gantry steel work to sit on. The setting out data was given on true OBGB36 coordinates, to provide correlation between the initial survey and the setting info GPS was used to establish each gantry first.

Quote from Project engineer for CWSP stated “The setting out of the gantries on the M62 project between junctions 29 to 30 by Golding Engineering was to millimeter accuracy, the gantries just slotted in place when assembled on site”

M1 junction 32 to 33 - Setting out of northbound offset points every fifty meters along a 2.5K stretch of the M1, this establish the site start and end chainages to the new Managed Motorway Scheme.

M1 junction 37 to 38 – Commissioned to do a Topographical survey of a small 500m section of the M1 southbound carriageway for a motorway bridge feasibility scheme, this will be used to design and overlay to the bridge deck. Traffic management used was during off peak weekend utilising and hardshoulder & lane1 for the first days survey, then a further lane 2 and lane 3 closures were required to survey the bridge in detail to establish parapet heights.

M1 junction 34 to 35 – Surveys to the central reservation for a total of 1.6Km using reflectorless specialist survey techniques to survey the edge line on the M1. Traffic management for this project was only on the hardshoulder with northbound and southbound closures on at the same time

Working on the M62 junction 37 to 38  carriageway renewal and Addle Lane Bridge replacement as Deputy Supervisor under the contract, this role was under the EEC 2 type of contract under option D target Cost and was valued at a combined on site cost of £10,000,000 .

M18 monitoring survey of how the carriageway had moved over the last twelve months, this survey help establish how to continue with designing a new section of carriageway for planned renewal.

Thornhill Dewsbury – House setting out conducted on small plot of land blended into the hill side, an initial survey was done to establish site control; then after consultation with structural designer the plot was set-out to agreed positions on site.

  2008

Setting out services provided to Cyprus construction for a new extension to Dent Steel at Bradford. This project involved surveying and setting up new site gridlines prior to installing foundations for the portal frame to be placed in an tight area to the back of the building.

Surveying a new concrete structures windows prior to installing new aluminum fascia panels, this involved setting vertical gridlines on each window  to survey and later set-out the panel work for both vertical and horizontal alignment.
