Engineering Services
Our team of Engineers can provide Site Survey or Setting out solutions on small or large schemes with over twenty years experience of setting out on site and conducting surveys for Highway schemes or bespoke building plan surveys to even boundary issues.
We have a small pool of engineers who can set-out different types of Infrastructure or building works.
Below is a selection of the services we can provide here at Golding Engineering Ltd.
Areas of carriageway subsidence caused by either mining or other activity can be monitored over a period time; this will then provide a measure by how much level difference have occurred.
Monitoring stations are surveyed along each section at regular intervals (nominally 10m) on the edge of hardshoulder under a normal hardshoulder closure.
Any further points in the central reservation can be picked up by utilizing a lane 3 closures and placing reflective tapes at set locations, once these are in place normal surveys can be conducted from the hardshoulder under normal traffic management.
A comprehensive report would accompany any survey data in a table format with photographs indicating were any stations or markers are placed for future surveys.
By sighting a permanent ground marker offline to a structure or an OSBM, monitoring can be checked to see if a structure is dropping in level, this can be done by either using a normal level; or by placing reflective tapes to parts of the structure a 3D survey could be produced by using a total station to pick up points that a normal level can not.
Normally all surveys of this type can be done under normal hardshoulder closures, unless monitoring of the central reservation is required.
A comprehensive report would accompany any survey data in a table format with photographs indicating were any stations or markers are placed for future surveys.
Using Reflectorless technology normal carriageway surveys can be done utilizing hardshoulder closures; however this is not the same type of survey done by Laser Profiling by point clouds.
This type of survey would produce typically around a ± 5mm error done by normal surveying techniques and can be either to local grid or GPS coordinates with the latter having a 3D level error of ± 25mm to OS.
The output data can be produced in Genio, CSV, ASCII or 3D DXF/DWG formats for ACAD and further processing could be done to produce cross sections or long sections brought into an ACAD package for detailed design to be done later.
Again using Reflectorless techniques a 3D survey of any type of structure can be produced, traffic management again would normally only require a hardshoulder closure and can be done during normal daylight hours.
By using the latest surveying software such has LSS cross sections and longs sections can be combined into the surveys at extra cost.
With software packages costing a lot to maintain and train personnel to use it, this service can save time and resources to do the main designing; having got the correct information at the start of the design brief.
By sitting down and speaking one to one with our engineers we can produce any survey or Site engineering solution regarding setting out or surveys that may come about during early feasibility studies either at the Value Management stage or Concept Design stage.
Have an input into how your survey will be planned on the ground by stating where stations are located or what type of orientation the survey would be.
During routine maintenance surveys, our survey team could walk along a section of carriageway and pick up features such as manholes/Gullies and other types of iron or points of interest required to be input at a later date into a Geographic Information System (GIS) for asset management records.
Survey structure locations for correct OS grid coordinate for 277 road form information to new structures such as MS3’s or footbridge to full structures.
Part of our service is as a checking engineer, setting out of a structure may require fundamental dimension checks to be carried out by an independent engineer. Our service will produce a detailed as built survey and can be compared to the original design data to assess if any errors have occurred during the final setting out with a simple report for back up.
Problems may come about from a third party survey being wrong or errors during design that are causing concerns that could create claims or compensation events if not dealt with quickly enough.
Our team of engineers are trained in different types of setting out, and can provide either an in house training service to young graduates in the use total stations, levels, other surveying equipment and techniques employed during setting out or provide actual setting out services.
